Messaging Bridge
Summary
A Messaging Bridge is a dedicated component that connects two or more different messaging systems, allowing messages to be passed between them.
What it is
Sometimes, large organizations end up with multiple messaging systems. This can happen due to mergers, or because different teams chose different technologies. A Messaging Bridge is a pattern that solves the problem of how to make these different systems talk to each other.
The bridge is a component that subscribes to messages from a channel in one messaging system and republishes them to a channel in another system. It can be a simple one-way pipe, or it can be a more complex, bidirectional bridge.
The bridge can also include a Message Translator if the message formats are different between the two systems.
Using a Messaging Bridge allows applications connected to different messaging systems to communicate with each other, without the applications themselves needing to know about the bridge. This pattern is particularly useful for integrating legacy systems or for migrating from one messaging system to another.
